Jim’s Real Estate Set to Change the Industry: Interview with Regional Franchisor – Jamie Byard

Recently, Eden Exchange spoke with Jamie Byard, Regional Franchisor for Jim’s Real Estate. In this interview, Jamie discusses how Jim’s will differentiate its brand from the gamut of Real Estate Agencies; who would make the perfect Franchisee; and why Jim’s Real Estate is such a lucrative opportunity for the right person.

Hi Jamie, first of all, could you tell us about your background and how you came about to be involved with Jim’s Real Estate?

Jamie Byard
I have been involved with Jim’s Group now for 12 years after starting as Franchisee in another division. I eventually worked with Jim at the Jim’s Group national office supporting all the divisions whilst also running a few divisions myself. I took an opportunity to work directly with the Building Inspections Division where I met Trish Mewett. After a decision by Jim’s Group to introduce real estate it seemed like a natural fit that with my Franchise experience combined with Trish’s real estate experience that we should put up our hand to work on the venture together. It was a natural pairing of each of our skills.

Jim’s is such a strong brand in the services field with a huge focus on the customer experience. What do you think will be Jim’s Real Estate’s biggest advantages over its competitors?

Jamie Byard
Jim’s brand is so well known. We find that if a customer engages a Jim’s franchisee in any division and they receive the service that Jim expects they tend to be hooked and use Jim’s wherever possible. We understand that in real estate negotiating with a professional agent can be daunting. It is for that reason we have a unique system where we let the Vendor make us an offer on what they feel is fair commission to pay. Our Franchisees can decide if they are prepared to take that offer or not, but at least it is a fair starting point for the client.

As this new division develops, how does the Jim’s group maintain quality throughout every franchise? How will this be guaranteed with Jim’s Real Estate?

Jamie Byard
Every client that engages Jim’s Franchisees are surveyed as to the level of customer service that they have received. It is the only measurement we analyse from the Franchisees. We have proven that if we provide excellent service, the word will spread  and so will the success that goes with it.

Who would be best suited for Franchising with Jim’s Real Estate? What characteristics make a successful Franchisee?

Jamie Byard
We are looking for experienced agents that are looking to go out on their own. We provide all the systems and platforms needed to run their own real estate business. The best thing is, because it is their own business they keep 100% of the commission they earn. That is a rare thing and means that can make more money for the same effort they are putting in now. So, it is effectively a turn key business, all they need to do is the regular day to day tasks that any good agent does and the success (and rewards) will come from their hard work.

What kind of experience or licensing is required for Franchising with Jim’s Real Estate?

Jamie Byard
We expect our franchisees to be fully licensed and have at least 12 months experience.

Where do you see Jim’s Real Estate in 5 years time, what will be some of your milestones?

Jamie Byard
We are initially rolling out in Victoria but within 5 years we expect to have national coverage. To be honest, our main priority is to support our franchisees so they can reach the success that they are aiming for.
