Nexus Law Group acquires Australian Lawyers Network
Nexus Law Group continues its rapid growth trajectory, acquiring the Australian Lawyers Network Pty Ltd (ALN) and appointing a number of new Consulting Principals to their Sydney team.
Founder of ALN, Alan Prasad, comes to Nexus with 17 years of commercial legal experience and having built a network of senior consultant lawyers similar to the Nexus model.
“Nexus philosophy closely mirrors ALN. It has been extremely gratifying to see the growth of the Nexus ‘embedded
contractor’ model, which was highly synergistic with my firm structure and its OpenLaw practice system was a complete solution for ALN,” Alan said.
Alan joins as a partner in the central Nexus team, bringing with him his lawyer network.
With the addition of ALN, Nexus has also appointed three new Consulting Principals, with skills ranging from tax law to commercial and business law, and with in-house and private practice experience – Michael Holmes, Gene Goodsell and Gia Ghazi.

Michael Holmes is a highly experienced commercial lawyer having spent eight years in private practice and 10 years as a barrister working on complex litigation and corporate advisory matters. Michael says he was drawn to the highly
reputable offering provided by Nexus, its common-sense approach to the business of modern law and the strength of its centralised systems.
“All Nexus lawyers have significant experience and collectively represent a high quality product in the legal market,” Michael said. “The Nexus model is truly innovative and delivers better value to clients and lawyers than traditional law firm models. This approach provides lawyers with flexibility whilst building a strong base to grow a serious practice.”
Gene Goodsell has 12 years of domestic and international experience gained working in leading law firms and corporates in Australia and the United States. He specialises in taxation and has provided advice for individuals, start-up companies, small to medium sized businesses and large companies.
Prior to joining Nexus, Gene was a principal at a boutique tax and commercial law firm. He has also practiced as a tax lawyer at a global law firm and a professional services firm. Gene says he joined Nexus because the operating model was exactly what he was looking for.
Gia Ghazi has significant experience in many areas of law. From her experience in managing her own legal practice and time as an in-house lawyer with a government enterprise, Gia has a diverse range of experience in the areas of property, business and commercial, franchising, leasing, family law and estate planning.
She says she chose Nexus because of its unique way of allowing lawyers to do business and the connectivity of its membership.
“Nexus is unlike any other lawyer network, which are typically just disconnected agency networks and not truly functional as a law firm. Having run a sole practice, most of my time was spent on unproductive activities like
accounting and administration. The Nexus model allows me to focusing on legal work, without the hassle of admin, and with the benefit of a highly experienced and connected team behind me.”
“It seemed to me that only Nexus truly connects its membership as on firm, something that really attracted me to its model – independence with true connection. The dispersed law firm model doesn’t come without its challenges, for example educating clients and other lawyers that there are more efficient ways of doing business and I love challenging the way things have been traditionally done in the past.”
Founder, Marcus McCarthy, said he was pleased to welcome the highly experienced lawyers to the Nexus team.
“We strive to provide clients with a wide-range of expertise, not just in subject matter, but also in different working environments,” Marcus said. “As our practice model paves the way for new ways of doing business and this is vital to the success of not only our firm, but the entire industry.”
Gia Ghazi holds a Masters of Law (Commercial Litigation), Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Policing and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
Michael Holmes holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts, as well as being a graduate member of the Australian institute of Company Directors and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
