Interview with Adam Post from Jim’s Pool Care in Victoria East

“After researching Jim’s Pool Care and the opportunity to become a franchisor, I made the decision to take on the challenge and change my life for the better.”

Jim’s is a recognised, leading name in Australia. This iconic brand has branched out into a variety of business ventures, assisting families all around Australia with their day to day necessities. Becoming a Jim’s Franchisee means more than simply starting your own business; it means joining a dedicated family, committed to seeing your business thrive.

Eden Exchange recently spoke to Adam Post of Jim’s Pool Care to find out why Aussies are taking the steps to becoming Jim’s Franchisees.

Edenexchange
Thanks for speaking with us Adam. Can you tell us about your background and career? Were franchise opportunities something that always interested you and why did you pick Jim’s Pool Care in particular?

Adam Post
I come from a construction background, while also running a few small businesses. I had doubts about franchising, but after researching Jim’s Pool Care and the opportunity to become a franchisor, I made the decision to take on the challenge and change my life for the better.

Edenexchange
When someone is a first-time franchisee, what sort of qualities in a franchise should they be looking for? What advice would you have to someone working for themselves for the first time?

Adam Post
If you want to be successful in any small business you need to have the right attitude and drive. No one is going to pay you to sit on the couch and watch TV. In the service industry you have to be a people person and exceed people’s expectations. Be passionate about what you do, and tell everyone you meet about it.

“I have met wonderful customers on this journey and have the freedom to work for myself.”

Edenexchange
You currently have franchise territories available across the east of Victoria. Which areas do you specialise in? What are some of the factors that make this region unique?

Adam Post
Currently Jim’s Pool Care is experiencing huge demand for our services right across Melbourne. We are generating over 1400 leads a year and a quarter of those are going unserviced. Franchises are maxing out, and not able to take extra work.

Edenexchange
How supportive were Jim’s Pool Care when you first started your franchise?

Adam Post
Jim’s was very helpful in establishing my business. Within the first few weeks I was making money, and in 12 months I had built a large customer base with a healthy income. If I was to try and start my own pool service business from scratch I know I would have faced huge struggles, and probably failed as a lot of new small business do.

Edenexchange
What’s your take on where your industry is heading? What are some trends you believe operators in the pool care and maintenance sector need to be aware of?

Adam Post
I have noticed that the small pool shops and some of the larger chains have gone by the wayside in the last 5 years due to not moving with the times, and increased overheads in the winter.

Mobile service technologies are growing as society changes; most families are now two income and time-poor. Clients would rather spend time with family than work around the house. Also, with the newer generations, people are not as handy, and struggle with basic home maintenance.

Edenexchange
Tell us about any hurdles you may have overcome along the way, and what have been some of your prouder moments as you’ve grown your business?

Adam Post
Hurdles have been many, from sleepless nights at the start wondering if I had made the right decision. Other challenges were breaking into the pool industry and establishing a network of suppliers and tradesmen that I could trust with building my business. Highlights have been too many to count! From making large amounts of money, to building Jim’s Pool Care Victoria from just myself 6 years ago to 11 franchises. I have met wonderful customers on this journey and have the freedom to work for myself.

Edenexchange
What’s the best part about your profession? What drives you to do what you do?

Adam Post
Again it must be the work / life balance. I have the freedom to choose when and where I work. The more I put into my business the greater return into my pocket.

Edenexchange
Thank you for your time, Adam.
