Franchise briefing with Caleb Kim – Quoss Limited

“Currently I specialise in showers and taps. Quoss has a niche market where they are able to offer a product that other manufacturers can’t.”

We spoke to Caleb Kim, a Quoss franchisee at the Auburn Megamall in Sydney. Caleb spoke to us about his franchising journey and provided some unique insights on the Quoss business.

Quoss, an Australian-owned company, have been manufacturing showers, bathroom and kitchen taps for over 25 years. It recently launched a business incubation programme and is recruiting franchisees across premium retail locations in major Westfield, Stockland and other shopping centres across New South Wales.

Thanks for speaking with us Caleb. Can you tell us about your background and career? Why did you get into franchising and how did you first get involved with Quoss?

Caleb Kim
I attended university in Canberra, and completed a Bachelor of PR and a Bachelor of International Studies. Upon completion of my studies I immediately joined the Australian Army and served for almost two years. Since then I have worked as a PR consultant and construction sector. I wanted to make use of my knowledge in Korean so I found Quoss and worked as a Marketing Manager. They offered to open up a franchise which I saw as a good opportunity.

Edenexchange
Which areas do you specialise in? What drew you to Quoss products?

Caleb Kim
Currently I specialise in showers and taps. Quoss has a niche market where they are able to offer a product that other manufacturers can’t.

Edenexchange
What advice do you have for someone looking to run a franchise for the first time? What’s the key message you tell new franchisees?

Caleb Kim
Always be prepared for the worst case scenario, especially when things may go well at the beginning. In the ADF we would always prepare for the most likely outcome and importantly the most dangerous outcome.

Edenexchange
What sort of reactions to Quoss products have you had from customers? Do customers find it a simple process to install the Quoss products?

“They provide franchisees with on-site training as well as analysis of projected outcomes. They have provided fantastic display items and support materials like brochures and print handouts.”

Caleb Kim
Most customers are concerned that the system will not fit over their current systems. In most cases I try to assure them by sending me a photograph of their system. Alternatively, I offer installations in which they are not liable to any cost if the system doesn’t work. Overall, customers find it a simple process if they attempt to install it themselves.

Edenexchange
What type of support does Quoss provide once a new franchisee starts?

Caleb Kim
They have provided good display items and support materials like brochures and print handouts. I was already trained in these products previously so it was much simpler for me. They provide other franchisees with on-site training as well as analysis of projected outcomes.

Edenexchange
What challenges have you faced to get the business where it is today? On the other hand, what are some of the key achievements you are proud of?

Caleb Kim
Damage occurring when installations go wrong can be a major setback. You have to be informed of what the risk are and what insurance will cover. I’ve made excellent customer relationships, and they are always on good terms with me.

“I’ve had numerous customers cook and dine with me. Recently, I was invited to go hunting for someone I installed a kitchen mixer for”

Edenexchange
What Quoss products have you used yourself? Which products are the best-sellers and which do you recommend?

Caleb Kim
I have been using the Aroma Sense showers for a while and recently installed the Sunflower in a new house.

Edenexchange
What’s the most interesting part of your job? What drives you to do what you do?

Caleb Kim
Diversity of customers; I’ve had numerous customers cook and dine with me. Recently, I was invited to go hunting for someone I installed a kitchen mixer for. I hope to expand and gather better customer bases and higher sales.

Edenexchange
Thank you for your time, Caleb
