Interview with Peter – Jim’s Antennas in Northern Tasmania

“Home audio visual is heading more towards online content and home automation. With the advent of faster internet, home networking is getting more important.”

Eden Exchange recently spoke with Peter who is franchisee for Jim’s Antennas in Northern Tasmania. Peter looks after multiple areas in the region. He discussed with us his franchising and business and journey and also provided some unique insights on the Jim’s Antennas business.

Edenexchange
Thanks for speaking with us Peter. Can you tell us about your background and career? Why did you get in to franchising and how did you first get involved with Jim’s Antennas?

Peter
My previous employment prior to this was in textile weaving with a background in computers. My initial reason for first looking at the Jims Antennas franchise was due to uncertainty of employment in that industry. After looking at various other options I found that this fit with my current interests and desired lifestyle.

Edenexchange
What advice do you have for someone looking to run a franchise for the first time? What’s the key message you tell new franchisees?

Peter
Do your research and don’t expect the work to just appear. You can only get out of any business what you are willing to put in.

“I’m most proud when you ask a client how they heard of us, and they say you were referred by a previous client.”

Edenexchange
In your opinion, what makes for a successful Jim’s Antennas franchise owner?

Peter
A good work ethic and the willingness to go that extra mile to meet the customer expectations. Also to be able to explain things in language that the customer can understand.

Edenexchange
What type of support does Jim’s Antennas provide once a new franchisee starts?

Peter
Ongoing training in various areas. Also if you come across something you don’t fully understand you have a network of Franchisees that have probably come across the same thing that are willing to share their experience/solutions.

Edenexchange
What major industry trends should franchise operators and buyers and need be looking out for? What’s your take on where the audio visual home services industry is heading?

Peter
Home audio visual is heading more towards online content and home automation. With the advent of faster internet the home networking is getting more important.

“If you come across something you don’t fully understand you have a network of Franchisees that have probably come across the same thing that are willing to share their experience/solutions.”

Edenexchange
What challenges have you faced to get the business where it is today? On the other hand, what are some of the key achievements you are proud of?

Peter
I think the biggest challenge has just been getting people to know you’re here and what you offer. I’m most proud when you ask a client how they heard of us, and they say you were referred by a previous client.

Edenexchange
What’s the most interesting part of your job? What drives you to do what you do?

Peter
Helping clients to achieve their expected outcome. Also sometimes exceeding their outcome because they did not realise that was actually possible.

Edenexchange
Thanks for your time Peter
